Gregg M. Raymond

Gregg M. Raymond

Gregory (Gregg) Miller Raymond peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at the age of 69, after a years-long battle with Leukemia. Gregg is survived by his wife, Kimberly Suzanne Raymond; son, Cliff and his wife Cassidy; daughter, Carleen Raymond; stepdaughters Ashton and Britany Cloer, Grayce and Elyssa Barker; brothers Kim and wife Michelle, Kelly and wife Cindy, Kyle and wife Barbara; sister Courtney Calfee and husband David; grandchildren Mosley, Holden and Ripley Raymond, Tansley Cloer, and Iris Cloer; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Marcia Raymond and parents, Mitchell and JoAnn Raymond.

Gregg grew up in Houston and was active in youth sports, enjoying the camaraderie, and making lifelong friends. He graduated from Spring Woods High School in 1969 then attended Texas Lutheran as a student-athlete in the football program. Gregg was a loyal teammate and friend whose strength of character won him an athletic scholarship to play football at Austin College while finishing his undergrad and a Master’s in Education. There he met Marcia Mandrell, who shared his love for athletics and education. Gregg and Marcia were happily married in 1974 and enjoyed a life of hunting, fishing, the Houston Rodeo, and travel, until her death in 2008.

Gregg particularly loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing with family and friends. He spent numerous years down in Rockport and Sargent, Texas and looked forward to hosting family and friends, fishing and cooking on the coast.

Gregg worked for over 37 years in commercial real estate in Houston and Dallas. Gregg was the Founder and President of Commercial Dynamics for more than 20 years and he served as the IREM Chapter President in 2005.

Gregg married Kimberly on January 20, 2016. For more than 10 years, Kimberly and Gregg were a dynamic, social duo who loved hanging out together: sitting in the duck blind watching animals, riding around the ranch, long days fishing.

A gregarious, hospitable guy who never met a stranger, Gregg first joined the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo community as a committeeman on the Metro Go Texan Committee and later became Chairman of the Special Children’s Committee (1999-2001) and the School Art Committee (2012-2014). Gregg was elected to the Board of Directors in 2003. Gregg was happiest when sharing the HLSR experience with his friends and family, and serving the Houston community through school art scholarships and his dedication to children with special needs. He was a founding member of the Special Heart’s buying group, which purchased a piece of school art each year and donated it to an organization that supports children, especially those in the special needs community. He also became a Maverick of the Tejas Vaqueros in 2011. He truly loved the brotherhood and rituals he shared with his Vaquero brothers.

Gregg loved the Lord, and his faith was apparent to all who knew him, and anyone who ever heard him wholeheartedly belt out a hymn. Gregg was the ultimate older brother to his four siblings (C/G+K3=1). His grandchildren will remember big hugs, getting to ride Googgie’s horse and boat rides at the creek. His spirit of hospitality will surely live on in his children who inherited his love for cooking, his appreciation for education, and his dedication to serving others.

Due to COVID-19, the family will hold a small memorial service for only family and close family friends on Friday, the 15th of January, at 3pm in the Sanctuary of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Dr in Houston, where Rev. John Barksdale will serve as officiant. Many people loved Gregg and we hope they will join the family virtually and view the service using this link: http://www.second.org/liveevents. The family plans to host a large Celebration of Life for all who loved Gregg in late spring/early summer, when safe to do so. The family looks forward to seeing all of his friends and colleagues at that time.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family suggests contributions in memory of Gregg be made to SIRE, 11211 Katy Freeway, Suite 660, Houston, TX 77079. Gregg greatly benefitted from the gift of blood transfusions during his illness. Please also consider giving a blood donation to the American Red Cross or Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.

I've known Gregg since our elementary days at Shadow Oaks Elementary.  We had a lot of fun running the big ditch and playing in his backyard.  And then good times all the way through high school.

Very sad to learn of him passing.  Another great person lost to cancer.
