Jacquelyn Cocke (Faculty)

Dear Family, Friends, Co-Workers, Former SWSH Chorale & Safari Singers, and Colleagues,

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of a great mentor, musician, teacher, friend, colleague, and even “mother” figure to so many of us.  Jackie succumbed to the effects of several smaller and larger strokes over the past few weeks.  After spending time at Memorial City Hospital, she was moved to Houston Hospice on Thursday, May 27, and passed away gently in the wee hours of the morning on May 30, with her beloved nieces (Maria and Elizabeth) and nephew (Don) by her side.  Everyone of us will feel her passing greatly in one way or another, but if you recall her practicality, you will know that she would have us to celebrate her life rather than to mourn its passing.

At this time a “Celebration of the Life of Jacquelyn Cocke” has been planned, most likely for this coming weekend and more than likely at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.  As soon as I know the exact details -day, time, and place - I will forward that information on to each of you.  I have suggested to the family that those of us who are available would be honored to sing for her Celebration and I have also suggested that those of us who can would be glad to meet earlier (either on Sat. or Sun.) in order to rehearse the music.  I have also suggested that many of us would be willing to bring trays of goodies, sandwiches, fruit, veggies, dips, chips, etc., for a reception and time to visit afterwards.

Carol Smith, Frances Anderson, and Bob Brewer have all indicated their willingness to be a part of this service.  For those of you who know others who are not on this email list (or whose addresses are wrong on this list), please feel free to contact them and send them this information as well.  I know that there are so many people who would want to be a part of this time of celebration and time to visit with each other, remembering the life and times we shared with this great woman!  Thank you in advance for your response!!!

Most sincerely,

Blessings!
Lynn Sawyer Jordan
