Carolyn Barlow Taylor, 73 years old, passed away October 13, 2024, after a lengthy fight with metastatic breast cancer. A lifelong Texas resident, Ms. Taylor was born November 13, 1950, in Amarillo, Texas to Robert and Ruth Barlow. She grew up in Houston, Texas, and graduated Spring Woods High School in 1969. Since graduation, Carolyn’s remained active and close with her high school class, helping to organize and attend numerous reunions and other events. She remained close friends with many of her classmates. That is a testament to a woman who believed in serving others and took that belief to her career in human resources. A graduate of Texas Tech University in 1973 with a degree in Education, Carolyn developed her passion for HR. She assisted employees at Compaq, HP and Icon throughout her career; and she did so with a smile and genuine concern for others. Carolyn loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was Mom to Christy and Daryl, working tirelessly to ensure they had everything they needed to grow into successful and happy adults. Carolyn exhibited kindness throughout her life, influencing that attitude in her children and grandchildren. Even through strenuous chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Carolyn worked to maintain a positive attitude, never giving up her fight. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her sister, Carlene Bryant of Stockton, Kansas; daughter Christy Taylor Bray and husband, Kevin, of Texas City; and Daryl Taylor and wife, Jennifer, of Cypress. Also surviving are her five grandchildren: Christian Bray Uhlman and husband, Samuel, of Spring; Isabella Bray of Galveston; and Dylan, Jacob, and Derek Taylor of Cypress. She also leaves behind one great-grandchild, Ulric Uhlman, son of Christian and Sam. Carolyn loved many things in life, all things Disney, and above all else, she loved her family and valued her title as Grandma above all others she earned in her lifetime. The family offers sincere gratitude for friends who continued to visit her until the end at Avalon Memory Care, and for the incredible nursing staff who cared for her daily. Carolyn was a kind, generous and gentle soul whose presence is already missed.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 2 p.m. in Cypress, TX, please reach out to the family for more details. Celebrate her by wearing turquoise or Disney-theme attire. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you offer donations in her memory to The American Cancer Society (Cancer.org).
