Steven Robert Jones died 05-24-07

STEVEN ROBERT JONES, 55, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 24. A devoted husband, son, brother and father, Steve is survived by his wife of 29 years, Leila; his two children Christophe and Sophie; his father Bob; his sisters Danny and Shelley; his nieces Erica, Sarah, Ashley and Jessica; his nephew Matthew; his great niece Emery; and his two dogs, Ziggy and Freddy. Steve was born in Houston, TX on June 6, 1951. He graduated from Spring Woods High School in 1969. While raising his two children with his wife Leila and working his days in construction, he attended the University of Houston where he earned a B.S. in Technology in 1986. A hard-working passionate man who put his heart and soul into everything in which he was involved, Steve had worked for Fretz Construction for more than 15 years. Steve immersed himself into his children's activities. He coached his son's little league teams, and he spent 10 years attending and officiating his children's swim meets, which took up almost every weekend. He was extremely active in United States Swimming and enjoyed every minute of it. When his children retired from swimming, Steve's long time passion for golf resurfaced. When he wasn't on the golf course or at the driving range, he was at home watching the golf channel, or in the backyard practicing his swing. He loved to be around the game and took advantage of every opportunity to do so. Beyond his love for golf and his children's activities, Steve and Leila often vacationed in Florida. Steve was a free-spirit who never judged anyone and lived life on his own terms. So many of his incredible qualities can be seen in his children each day, and his unique character will continue to shine through them forever. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, at Waltrip Funeral Home, 1415 Campbell Road. Condolences can be sent to www.mem.com. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The family would like to thank all those who have provided support, love and prayers during this difficult time. He will be remembered and loved by many as a good hearted, strong willed, honest man. Steve will live forever in our hearts.

It is with the greatest sorrow that I offer my most sincere condolences for the loss of Steve.

I can't remember when I first met Steve, but it was when we were in our early teens. Although we drifted apart over the years, I have many fond memories of him - both in work and in fun. Steve and his family were always there when I needed help or support. He came from a loving and generous family, and I believe that is what made him what he was. Steve was strong of character and large of heart; he was passionate in his work, but found time to enjoy life; he was a good friend and I'll miss him always.
